Interesting little story collection—I think Kass’ aim with these very short tales was to illustrate points about the various cultures she writes about here—but the stories themselves are far too short for a reader to dig in and really get anything of value. There are five stories in the book’s sixty-one pages, plus a good deal of whitespace and discussion questions. These feel more like outlines than they do stories. I’d like to see fleshed-out versions, but what’s here doesn’t yet deliver the goods. **
