We’re heading towards the final volume, picking up speed with every chapter. The homunculi are gathering their sacrifices, while the alchemists rush to stop them, leading to some showdown battles we—I, at least—never saw coming, but that make perfect sense. Arakawa may have stepped up the pace a little too much in a few places here (I think every manga artist talks about having to make that trade-off towards the ends of series at least once), but Arakawa keeps everything in control as much as possible, and this series is just as fun now as it was back at the beginning. *** ½
